Dedicated to My Brother, Oscar Villalobos – And a Reflection on Our Broken System
This piece is dedicated to my brother, Oscar Villalobos, whose relentless discussions on public policy, neocapitalism, and our fractured sociopolitical landscape have reshaped my understanding of the world. Through his insights, I’ve come to question why so many of us feel trapped in a system that prioritizes profit over people, exhaustion over well-being, and greed over genuine progress.
The Illusion of Prosperity Under Neocapitalism
By all means... Guilty! Modern capitalism has mutated into something far more predatory—neocapitalism, a system where financialization, corporate monopolies, and short-term gains dominate at the expense of human dignity.
Why do so many of us feel disconnected from our professions? Why do we sacrifice our health and happiness for productivity? Why does life keep getting harder despite all our "progress"?
AND… Why don’t we ALL question all these wrongdoing structures that govern our lives?
We've stopped questioning the machine. We've accepted burnout as normal, inequality as inevitable, and exploitation as just "business as usual."
Our economic system—capitalism—is broken. Until we educate ourselves and break free from this materialistic cycle, we will continue to suffer.
At the heart of our business’s success is a simple principle: “People over profit” We prioritize our customers, understanding that growth isn’t just about individual gain but collective benefit. How can I contribute to the collective good? How can I improve the lives of my customers, employees, and community?
When you put people before profits, everyone wins.
I’m not a perfect example —I’ve benefited from this system too. But awareness is the first step toward change. If we keep chasing profit at the cost of our humanity, we’ll only deepen the crisis. The alternative? A world where the economy serves people, not the other way around.
And it starts with us.
With love,
Fanny
